Block D latest in series of residential projects for Hounslow, including Frank Towell Court to create 102 new homes

Willmott Dixon has been selected by the London Borough of Hounslow for another large housing scheme, this time to create 96 affordable homes and commercial space on a £38m scheme in Brentford.

The deal to deliver the Block D development follows a series of residential projects for Hounslow, with Willmott Dixon currently building Frank Towell Court to create 102 new homes. In 2019, the company also handed over Bristol Court, a £26m retirement living scheme providing 94 new homes.

The Block D development, procured using the Genesis framework, involves the creation of three blocks ranging from six to eight stories, with the 96 new council rented homes arranged in a mix of 1,2,3 & 4 bed apartments, including ten homes designed to be wheelchair accessible. It is part of Hounslow’s commitment to build 1,000 new Council homes to meet an increasing demand for social housing within the borough.

The project, which will complete in summer 2023, includes landscaped communal gardens, 12 retail units and car parking spaces. To support the council’s goal to become zero-carbon by 2030, the homes will be 100% electric with an Air Source Heat Pump system that will provide residents with hot water and heating.

Ahead of the build, the Museum of London Archaeology conducted an extensive three-month archaeological dig at the site. Over the summer, artefacts found included two 17th century cellars, a Roman coin and hearths also believed to be Roman in date.

Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of London Borough of Hounslow, said:

“This is another great day for Hounslow and our residents; delivering 96 new council homes to help meet the increasing demand for housing in the borough. We’ve worked tirelessly with our partners, Willmott Dixon, to make sure these homes are of high-quality, energy efficient to meet the needs of our residents.”

Matt Kemp, senior operations manager at Willmott Dixon said:

“We are delighted to be again working in partnership with the London Borough of Hounslow to create more essential housing and important commercial space. Through our network of local supply chain partners, we will be supporting the Hounslow pound alongside delivering much needed places to live.”
