Willmott Dixon has followed up its successful Limelight housing scheme in Old Trafford by securing a £20m contract with Garden City Design and Build, part of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG).

The company’s residential specialists will deliver WCHG’s largest development to date, building 147 houses and apartments on a nine acre site on Simonsway, Wythenshawe. This is adjacent to the Manchester Enterprise Academy where Willmott Dixon built the Drury Building in 2017 to provide more space at the academy.

Designed by architect AEW, these new homes will offer the Wythenshawe Community a mixed tenure of 80 shared ownership, 29 outright sales and 38 rent to buy apartments. Providing a mix of two-bed and three-bed houses, alongside two-bed apartments, with construction due to start in July 2018.

Anthony Dillon, managing director of Willmott Dixon in the North said, “We are delighted to be working with Garden City Design and Build to create much needed new homes for Wythenshawe. As a local company, it is great to be back in Wythenshawe and we will aim to use local companies wherever possible to deliver the project.”

Wythenshawe Community Housing Group’s group chief executive Nigel Wilson said, “We are delighted to launch this exciting new project and create much needed affordable housing for this area extending choices for local people wishing to rent or buy. We have a diverse and vibrant community with a young and growing population; this development of 147 new homes will be another landmark development for the Group following our Village 135 Extra Care Scheme.”

For Willmott Dixon it’s another substantial development in Manchester, following the recently completed Limelight for Trafford Housing Trust, which created a mixed-use development in Old Trafford. This now provides a community centre, bistro café, pharmacy, health care facilities and 80 extra-care apartments with a vision as a community health and well-being hub.

Willmott Dixon is also celebrating being awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of Promoting Opportunity for its work creating social value for local communities.
