Architectural Technologist

Willmott Dixon is seeking an ambitious Architectural Technologist to join our in-house design team known as Collida. Our team sit centrally within Willmott Dixon, and our focus is primarily on design standardisation and the continued development of our DfE design platform, as well as liaising with project teams on the deployment of these principles. Willmott Dixon constructs across all sectors and uses various superstructure types. Therefore, a wide variety of technical expertise would be preferred, including but not limited to concrete frame, LGSF, and hot rolled steel frame.

The successful candidate will be up to date with current and upcoming legislation and Building Regulations, have a robust understanding of project constraints, build sequencing, and cost implications of details. This will be a hybrid role, the team are located at our Hitchin office and the ideal days to be office based are Monday and Tuesday.

Duties and responsibilities include:

Delivery:



  • Creating/developing architectural design information for our projects.

  • Producing and monitoring the architectural TIDP for a project and produce (with the help of my team as applicable) all relevant documents mentioned in the TIDP and subsequent revisions in the deadlines provided.

  • Reviewing technical documents to identify and help rectify any potential issues.

  • Taking part in the coordination workshops with other consultants and supply chain to ensure all design information is coordinated and consistent.


Collaboration:



  • Encouraging a collaborative and creative work environment, promoting innovation, design excellence, and continuous improvement within the design team.


Technical expertise:



  • Ensuring the design documents produced meet the customer brief, current regulations and all Willmott Dixon policies and procedures.

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable building codes, regulations, and industry standards throughout the design process.

  • Providing design solutions that optimise buildability, value, sustainability, and safety, and coordinate this information with the relevant teams (operations, supply chain, commercial teams, sustainability, and SHE teams).

  • Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in construction design, communicating these to the project team, wider business and incorporating relevant advancements into project designs where appropriate.

  • Responsible for helping to drive change to processes.

Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential skills:

• Experienced Revit user
• Strong technical knowledge, specification, and material knowledge
• Ability to produce detailed technical drawings
• Understanding of current Building Regulations, Building Safety Act, and Warranty Guidance as a minimum
• Capability to work autonomously

Desirable skills:

• Experience within at least one of the following sectors: Department for Education, Residential, Leisure or Healthcare
