Three Willmott Dixon projects won their category at the British Construction Industry Awards in October 2024.
Winner: TBC.London
Environmental and sustainability initiative of the year
"The judges were struck by the passion shown by the presenters, the initiative they applied in linking the supply chain from The Elephant to TBC.London, and the effort and commitment the whole design team demonstrated in delivering their goal of reusing pre 1970s structural steel. This is a vital yet under-appreciated part of the circular economy which has the potential to deliver huge carbon savings across the industry. The establishment of the Engineers Reuse Collective is a really strong outcome, and hopefully with some good publicity this can grow and continue to guide the UK construction industry into the wider reuse of existing structural steelwork."
Winner: Halifax Bus Station
Transport Project of the Year:
"We were inspired by the solution which improved accessibility for all users, safety through deconflicting bus manoeuvres and security for the public through better visibility across the station. Topography and the position of the bus station as a gateway to the town was further enhanced through the design providing a 5th elevation of a green roof, benefiting from using rainwater run off as well as PV panels. All of this was achieved whilst keeping bus operations going during the build as well as sympathetically incorporating 3 Grade II listed buildings."
Winner: Bristol Beacon
Retrofit project of the year
"A true retrofit, making a key asset fit for generations, providing a world class facility in the heart of the city. The judges were particularly impressed with the collaborative approach and agility adopted by the team to resolve the challenges discovered with the site. The level of community spirit and engagement shone through the presentation. An exemplar retrofit project!"
