Paddock SEND School

Net zero SEND high school in Tooting, delivering more places for pupils with SEND requirements

Our experienced education team are working with Wandsworth Borough Council to deliver the relocation and expansion of Paddock Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school.

These works will see Paddock school’s secondary-aged students move from the current site in Roehampton, of which it has outgrown, to a purpose-built, Net Zero school in Tooting. The new school will be ready for the September 2025 school year.

Improved Facilities

Increasing demand coupled with limited space has meant that the school have been unable to support more students. With the new move and expansion, the school will be able to offer an additional 64 spaces for older pupils. Increasing the capacity from 128-192.

The new 4,220m2 site will boast larger classrooms and outdoor spaces, offering improved resources for the children. This improved space will also house an onsite café run by the pupils, which will be open to the public. The cafe will help enhance pupils skills in school as well as within the community.

Richard Poulter, managing director of our central south office, commented:

"We are incredibly proud to be part of this important project that will have a lasting positive impact on the lives of children in the area. We are committed to delivering a facility that meets the highest standards of accessibility and quality. We look forward to seeing the state-of-the-art learning environment brought to life when the pupils move in."

Sarah Santos, Executive Headteacher at Paddock SEND School, said:

“We are very grateful for the dedication and hard work of everyone involved that has made this expansion possible. The enhanced facilities in the new school will give the pupils even more opportunities for an outstanding education.  We are excited to welcome the students here in the 2025/26 academic year”.

Social Value

Throughout this project, we will be Working with Wandsworth BEST (Business and Education Succeeding Together) team to deliver work experience for students, providing valuable on-the-job experience through industry placements. Additionally, we will be attending Employ Wandsworth job fairs and visiting schools to speak about the project and the construction industry.

The project will also provide a number of job starts for local residents via the Wandsworth Work Match scheme.

Energy Efficiency

With BREEAM Outstanding accreditation being a driving force for both Willmott Dixon and Wandsworth Borough Council, the school has been designed to be Net-Zero in Operation, completely relieving its dependence on fossil fuels

This project also looks to achieve a 0.3 Urban Greening Factor (UGF) rating, supporting the provisions for green infrastructure in urban areas.

These aspirations will continue our extensive portfolio of successfully delivering Net-Zero buildings. Helping to provide energy efficiency building infrastructure that is sustainable positive and gives back to the community within which it servers.
