Cheadle College campus redevelopment celebrates structural completion
Key milestone for major college revamp in Cheadle
Willmott Dixon has started 2012 with a major statement of its development intent by securing the £60 million residential element of a mixed-use regeneration scheme in Greenwich as part of a development agreement with the developers Cathedral Group Plc and Development Securities Plc.
Willmott Dixon’s development division, called Regen, will deliver the Residential Quarter at The Movement, Greenwich. Progress has already started with the s106 being signed with the London Borough of Greenwich.
Occupying 2.2 acres of prime land adjacent to Greenwich High Road and the Docklands Light Railway station, the 181-home 11 storey Residential Quarter is an integral part of The Movement. The scheme will include a student village, Travelodge hotel, additional 27 room boutique hotel, health, fitness and retail accommodation and a children’s nursery. A new pedestrian street running through the middle of The Movement will provide easy access to all these various amenities.
Willmott Dixon will use its Capital Works contracting arm to build the Residential Quarter, which already has planning permission.
Work is due to start on site this summer to create the homes, which range from one to three bedrooms and comprise 147 open market sale, 24 affordable rent and 10 available for shared ownership. The homes will be completed by summer 2014.
Willmott Dixon’s role as developer of The Movement, Greenwich’s Residential Quarter, comes just weeks after it announced a joint venture with retail giant Morrisons to develop a £65 million mixed tenure project in Walthamstow. The company is also leading in areas like the private rental initiative and aims to have further significant announcements to make relating to property development activity in 2012.
Willmott Dixon Regen divisional CEO Andrew Telfer says, “Located in a prime urban setting close to excellent transport links, the Residential Quarter is exactly the sort of development we have the ambition and know-how to deliver. When you include the additional contracting work of delivering accommodation for other parts of The Movement, it also fits neatly within our Group-wide skill sets.
“We are delighted to be working with Cathedral Group and Development Securities in helping them deliver this exciting new project for Greenwich.”
