Flemingate Development, Beverley
£120m town centre retail development, featuring top brands such as Top Man, H&M and Debenhams
This is the biggest regeneration scheme of its kind in the East Riding of Yorkshire town, with high-street names like Debenhams, Costa and Wilko all taking space.
It also includes an 80-room Premier Inn and a six-screen cinema, with Dominic Gibbons from developer Wykeland saying:
"We want the centre to simply be an extension of the town itself. Part of our focus is on raising awareness of Beverley as a whole, because the centre is only going to be successful if the town is and we believe the town will benefit from the centre's success."
Other features include a five-screen digital cinema complex operated by Parkway Cinemas and multi-storey parking for more than 550 cars.
New centre a big hit
Flemingate centre manager Graham Tait believes it will increase the amount of money spent in Beverley by 60 per cent:
"Whereas in the past many people just visited Beverley for a day, with the hotel, cinema and new restaurants, we hope we can encourage people to extend their stay. This is a new era in the town's history."
For Willmott Dixon, building Flemingate demonstrates our skills for retail planning and working in busy town centres to create a transformational impact for the local economy.
