Preconstruction Manager

Due to continued growth, Willmott Dixon are seeking a dynamic Preconstruction Manager to join our East Midlands team and play a pivotal role in delivering and winning profitable work whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.


You will lead an East Midlands team and be responsible for frameworks and two-stage bids for projects ranging in value from £10m to £100m across a range of sectors, including, Education, Leisure, Commercial, Blue Light, Residential and Health.At Willmott Dixon we operate through several frameworks, which supports  a greater probability of seeing your hard work come to life.


Reporting to the Procurement Director, you will be responsible for:



  • Bid Strategy: Lead the procurement team in setting winning bid strategies, ensuring profitability, timeliness, and alignment with company objectives.

  • Leadership: Foster a high-performing team environment, providing guidance, coaching, and resources to ensure success in project delivery.

  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively seek feedback, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance bid quality and competitiveness.

  • Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and potential business opportunities to inform strategic decision-making.

  • Resource Allocation: Coordinate with senior management to allocate resources effectively, ensuring optimal support.

  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to legal requirements, contractual obligations, and industry standards, promoting a culture of innovation and quality excellence.

Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential skills:



  • Expert knowledge of bid processes and construction industry practices ( could have been gained through experience of construction in Operations, commercial or Preconstruction)

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills 

  • Maintain and enhance external customer relationships

  • The ability to prepare basic planning programmes and understand the planning process

  • Read and accurately interpret tender information including drawings and technical specification

  • Ability to control resources, timing and quality in line with targets


Desirable skills



  • MCIOB/RICS membership or similar certification
