Principal Proposals Manager

Willmott Dixon are looking to recruit a Principal Proposals Manager to join our Wales and West construction office as we look to continue to grow in this region. The role will be based from either our Bristol or Cardiff office but you will likely have to travel to both offices on occasions to attend meetings. Willmott Dixon do support hybrid working so you will be supported to work from home 1 day per week.


This role will support the business in winning new projects, through leading our proposals offering for large/complex projects with compelling and persuasive written and oral content.


You will be responsible for engaging and leading our subject matter experts in addressing the customer’s needs and concerns, ensuring that our proposal offers best value for our customer. Through this creative, well-thought-out and engaging content, we are looking to ‘astonish’ our customers and ultimately win new projects.  This is also a highly networked role in which you will build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

Win Strategy



  • Ensuring proposal compliance and responsiveness, win strategy deployment, and the quality of proposal deliverables.

  • Responsible for setting the strategy, planning a programme for each proposal process and laying the foundations for a successful project win on large and/or complex projects.

  • Identify opportunities to add value and manage risks throughout the project process.

  • Collaborate with the estimating team to develop accurate cost estimates and pricing strategies for proposals.

  • Ensure that pricing aligns with the written content, the company's financial goals, competitive positioning, and market conditions.


Project Leadership



  • Develop and maintain the proposal plan, manage the proposal schedule, organise resources, coordinate team inputs and reviews, identify and support the resolution of proposal development issues, oversee production of deliverables, and facilitate proposal follow-up and lessons learned.

  • Challenge and influence a range of stakeholders to manage expectations, keep the project moving forward and deliver a profitable project.

  • Lead interview preparation to ensure that our presentation is customer and people focused.


Proposal Content



  • Strong writer and can brief and support all contributors to the proposal to deliver on time and within budget.

  • Pro-actively create quality responses from scratch.

  • Responsible for reviewing and updating responses ahead of final submission.

  • Ability to think from the customer’s perspective.

  • Planning and team building skills.

  • Creative thinking skills, enjoy problem solving.

  • Inspire a team with energy and enthusiasm.

  • Able to hold team members to account.

Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential



  • Strong user of Microsoft suite of office programmes including Excel, Word, Outlook and Project.

  • Previous experience of managing the proposal process and delivering to deadlines

  • Excellent writing skills as well as strong communication and management skills


Desirable



  • Strong working knowledge of the construction industry.

  • Have or working towards a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualification.

  • APMP membership and accreditation.

  • InDesign/Photoshop experience.
