Major milestone marks completion of modern facility ahead of spring opening

Willmott Dixon has successfully completed and handed over Lancashire's new £25.6m Pendle Police Station, marking a significant milestone in the county's policing infrastructure and reinforcing the company's growing expertise in delivering critical blue light facilities.

The handover ceremony, held on-site on Monday 10 November, brought together the Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire Clive Grunshaw, Chief Operating Officer for Lancashire Police Gillian Routledge, Divisional Commander for East Chief Superintendent Steve Rides, senior management from Willmott Dixon, and other key stakeholders.

The ceremony marked the successful completion of the build and symbolised the next step toward the station's opening, scheduled for early spring. The new facility on Carr Road in Nelson replaces older stations in Colne and Nelson, futureproofing police infrastructure in the area and providing officers with a modern environment to keep the community safe.

Delivering for Lancashire's Communities

The three-storey police station will host policing teams including response and neighbourhood teams, investigations and more. There will also be a front counter, maintaining the service for Pendle as part of the Police and Crime Commissioner's commitment that every borough will have a police station open to the public. The facility includes an associated multi-storey car park.

Construction work was procured through Procure Partnerships and the facility will be operational by early spring 2026.

Mike Poole-Sutherland, North West Director for Willmott Dixon, said: "It has been a pleasure to work in partnership with Lancashire Constabulary and all our valued local supply chain partners to deliver such an important project which will ensure officers have the modern facilities they need to keep the people of Pendle safe.

"Alongside Lancashire Constabulary, we're proud of the positive legacy this project has created for the Pendle community. This has included a £11.8m project spend within 30 miles of site, 70% of local labour has been from within the local area in addition to eight new opportunities being provided for Pendle residents. We've also worked with three T-level students and delivered over 100 apprenticeship weeks with 100 hours volunteered to support local organisation Pendle Food For All."

Chief Superintendent Steve Rides said, “The completion and handover of our new Pendle police station marks a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering modern, efficient policing for the communities we serve.

“This facility will provide our officers and staff with the tools and environment they need to continue keeping Pendle safe. We’re incredibly proud of the collaboration that has brought us to this point and look forward to opening the doors in next year.”

Clive Grunshaw, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire said: “I’m delighted to see the Pendle police station build continue to progress, with this latest milestone in its development bringing this new, state-of-the-art base another step closer.

"This new station represents a major investment in community safety and in the future of policing across Lancashire, with its progress thanks to the
hard work and dedication of everyone involved. I’m looking forward to being able to open this modern, fit for purpose police station that will help deliver on my commitment to tackle crime and keep people safe.”

Andy Robinson, director of architecture at Pick Everard said: “The new Pendle Police Station has been designed with sustainability in mind, targeting a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating. We’ve worked closely with Lancashire Constabulary, Willmott Dixon and project partners to create a modern, efficient facility that supports policing operations while remaining closely connected to the local community.

“It's fantastic to see the project reach completion, providing a building that will serve and protect Pendle’s communities well into the future.”

Demonstrating Blue Light Expertise

The successful delivery of Pendle Police Station reinforces Willmott Dixon's growing portfolio of blue light projects across the country. Recent projects for the emergency services include the £55m redevelopment of the existing headquarters building of Hertfordshire Constabulary in Welwyn Garden City, a new forensics centre for Thames Valley Police, a new fire station and training centre for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, as well as new headquarter buildings for Dorset, Humberside and Merseyside Police Forces.
