Travelodge, City of London

Conversion of a central London office block into a 75-bedroom hotel

Willmott Dixon Interiors collaborated closely with the client Travelodge to deliver this conversion of an existing office block into a 75-bedroom hotel.

Challenges and innovations

Located at Bank, in the heart of the City of London, the project was an extremely constrained site. Due to the confined external space and the proximity to the neighbouring buildings, which included wine bars, restaurants, offices and flats, Willmott Dixon Interiors had to implement a complex logistical plan.

This meant minimal disruption to the tenants of the surrounding buildings, both in relation to noise during the demolition and construction period, and deliveries of materials.

The project included demolition and a strip out of the existing building ahead of the fit-out.

All rooms were fitted out to the clients branding requirements. Willmott Dixon Interiors co-ordinated the installation of all FF&E to ensure that the hotel opened within two days of practical completion.

The design had to include a disabled access through a listed cobbled courtyard.

Willmott Dixon Interiors has maintained a relationship with Travelodge for over three years, carrying out refurbishment, fit out and active maintenance services for its hotel portfolio.
