The Role
Willmott Dixon are looking for a proactive and commercially minded accountant to join our Finance team on 12-month fixed term contract. This is a great opportunity for a qualified or qualified by experience accountant to thrive in a fast-paced environment and deliver high-quality management accounting information , financial controls, and continuous improvement.
Working closely with our regional businesses, you'll play a key role in supporting financial reporting, statutory compliance, and business decision-making while helping to shape and enhance our finance processes and systems.
The Project
What You'll Be Doing
As an Accountant, you will:
- Support the production of accurate and timely monthly accounting information across the region you're responsible for.
- Assist in maintaining strong financial controls, reconciliations, and reporting processes to ensure the integrity of financial information.
- Help ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and taxation requirements, including FRS 102, VAT, PAYE, NIC, CIS, and Corporation Tax.
- Provide clear, accurate, and commercially focused financial information to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Contribute to quarterly reporting, year-end audits, and statutory submissions.
- Build strong working relationships with finance and operational teams, providing professional support and financial insight.
- Support and mentor junior team members, helping to develop skills and encourage collaboration.
- Drive continuous improvement across finance systems, controls, processes, and reporting capabilities.
- Take ownership of your work, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, proactively, and within agreed deadlines.
- Act as a trusted and reliable member of the Finance team, delivering professional support across the business.
- Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
Essential and Desirable Criteria
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with commercial awareness and a proactive mindset.
Essential Criteria
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or qualified through significant relevant experience.
- Strong experience of producing monthly management accounting information, controls, reconciliations, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Well organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Strong IT and systems skills, including experience of finance systems and reporting tools.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience within the construction, contracting, engineering, or project-based sectors.
- Experience supporting audits and statutory reporting processes.
- Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior finance colleagues.
