Holders of the Carbon Trust Standard
We are one of only a handful of companies in our sector to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard accreditation.
The Carbon Trust Standard is a world-leading, international certification which recognises best practice and achievements in carbon reduction.
Companies which achieve the Standard must be able to provide an accurate assessment of their carbon footprint, supported by robust data. They must be able to evidence that they have strong carbon management processes and demonstrate continuous improvement over a three year period.
In 2021 we were recertified, achieving the highest Carbon Management score in our sector.
The Carbon Trust's Supply Chain Standard
In 2021 we became the first organisation in our sector to achieve Level 3 of The Carbon Trust’s Supply Chain Standard.
The Standard recognises organisations which can demonstrate that they are measuring, managing and reducing the carbon emissions from their supply chains.
Our investigations have shown that our supply chain emissions are 99 times greater than those we emit as a result of our own operations (so-called Scope 1 and 2 emissions). Working with our supply chain partners to tackle emissions is where we can have the greatest impact.
We spend well over £3m a day on goods, works and services and are prioritising our ‘Category A’ preferred partners in the most carbon intensive trades. Particularly those involved in groundworks, cement and plaster, as these represent the largest source of emissions.
In 2021, we achieved Level 3 of the Carbon Trust’s Supply Chain Standard. As part of this, we created carbon management plans with two groundworker companies in our supply chain, where we baselined their carbon footprints and created a series of short, medium and long-term interventions.
In 2018, we achieved Level 2 after helping three high impact supply chain partners baseline, monitor and reduce their footprint. As a result of interventions, our partners saved c.30% of their carbon emissions and energy spend.
We were a pathfinder company for The Carbon Trust’s international certification, which was launched in 2015 and we were the first organisation in our sector to achieve The Carbon Trust’s supply chain certification.
