Meopham School

Design and construction of a teaching block at Meopham School

This delivers on the school’s growth plans by adding teaching capacity, increasing secondary provision by 60 places and Sixth Form provision by 44 places.

the block features key spaces including staff offices, specialist classrooms for music, art, drama, design technology, and general classrooms to accommodate the school’s expanding curriculum.

External space included a large car park with pick up and drop off points, as well as external EV charging points. The estate comprises the existing secondary school, Meopham Fitness & Tennis centre, Busy Bees Nursery, Meopham Library & Medical centre. A busy live site requiring highly controlled logistics & clear communication to the neighbours.

Richard Poulter, managing director for the south: “

We are proud of our long standing history and relationship with Kent County Council. We are delighted to be working with them once again to provide these new school facilities. It will be wonderful to complete the work and see school community moving into the new learning space.”

Sustainability

Working with the architect Bond Bryan, our approach used structural insulated panels for most of the building with reinforced first floor and roof slabs using concrete to enhance thermal mass.

This mitigated against overheating and reduced additional mechanical cooling.
