Prime Sterile Services, Southampton

The construction of a 6600m2 new multi-use facility to house a Sterile Services Department (SSD) and the Aseptic Pharmacy.

The new facilities will allow the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust to produce critical care medication for some of the sickest patients including neonatal children and cancer patients. The building will also house an aseptic pharmacy.

The two new state-of-the-art specialist facilities are being developed by Prime plc in partnership with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).

The Aseptic Pharmacy will act as an MHRA-licensed pharmacy, with drugs and medicines manufactured for University Hospital Southampton and other NHS providers in the region. Meanwhile, the SSD will sterilise surgical tools and equipment for use by University Hospital Southampton.

The construction of the facilities marks a major milestone in the ongoing development work at the University Hospital Southampton.

Combined with the Trust's wider offerings, the new building will contribute towards the long-term goal of deepening the reputation of Southampton as a centre for medical excellence, preserving clinical space and enriching the local economy.
