Carbon Trust Standard
We are the only construction contractor to hold The Carbon Trust Standard. Companies which achieve the Standard must achieve an overall score of at least 60% and a repeat of the assessment takes place every two years. We were recertified in 2019 and gained a score of 89%, which was described as best-in-sector.
We are a pioneer of The Carbon Trust’s Supply Chain Standard – the world’s only accreditation for companies managing emissions from their supply chain. In 2019 we continued our work to encourage our supply chain partners to reduce their emissions and prepared our application for Level 3 of the accreditation to be submitted in 2020.
Project sustainability
We drive sustainability on our projects via our 10 Point Plan – a framework with 10 key sustainability criteria, including carbon, waste, community investment and biodiversity.
The plan sets project level goals and targets, which get harder year on year, and which are widely considered to be among the most challenging in the industry.
Projects completing in 2019 were required to achieve at least 7 out of the 10 points and 84% of our projects achieved their target. Every year we set more challenging targets for our projects – projects starting in 2019 must achieve at least 8 out of 10. Further analysis and discussions are now underway, to help us understand what we can do to improve in 2020.
