Delivering opportunity and social mobility

Building Lives academies and upskilling villages are two ways we create social mobility in communities

We believe no one should be left behind.

Our social value initiatives like Building Lives Academies and pop-up legacy villages on ‘meanwhile’ land drive opportunities for people to learn, grow and develop like their neighbourhood.

Upskilling people, particularly those who are disadvantaged and marginalised in society, transforms lives and provides much needed skills for industries like construction.

Our focus on equipping local people with skills and qualifications has seen a network or Building Lives Academies across the country. They provide key qualifications like CSCS cards and other important ways to get a foot 'in the door' to a rewarding career in construction. We also use our extensive supply chain partner network to provide mentoring and work experience.

This opens the door to more work opportunities and good quality jobs, which in turn stimulate further training, career progression, greater earning power and improved productivity. All of which benefits them, their local communities, and society as a whole.

Improving people’s employment chances and earning potential builds strong foundations for personal growth and development, greater self confidence, pride in themselves and more security about the future.

With a greater pool of local skills and capabilities, communities are far more able to benefit from new opportunities and innovation as well as cope and adapt to job market changes. This in turn helps drive local economic sustainability and prosperity, and generate wider area growth.
