Leading the agenda
In 2018 we continued to push for policy changes supporting a more sustainable built environment, through our membership of industry and cross-sector groups, including The Aldersgate Group, the UK Green Building Council, IEMA, Build UK, National Social Value Taskforce, Social Value UK and Social Enterprise UK.
We publicly supported the Aldersgate Group’s recommendation that the Government set specific long-term environmental goals post-Brexit. We signed two letters addressed to the Prime Minister, one which advised on the upcoming Environment Bill and another urging greater ambition in its target for electric vehicles.
In 2018 we joined a group helping the Department for Communities and Local Government pioneer recommendations from the Hackitt report (the report published following the Grenfell Tower tragedy). We were the only contractor asked by the Secretary of State to contribute to Defra’s waste and resources roundtable.
Our people continued to influence and share best practice across the industry. They sat on judging panels, and spoke at a range of conferences and awards including the FUSE housing conference, the National Social Value Conference, Construction News’ Inspire Me, Aldersgate events, and Enactus’ final submission presentations (social enterprise initiatives for universities).
Willmott Dixon people sit on the Boards of BSRIA, the BRE Trust, the Supply Chain Sustainability School and the UKGBC.
Our work has featured in a range of publications showcasing best practice, including Construction News, edie, LBG’s annual report and the NLGN insight report.
