Carbon Trust Standard
We are one of the only contractors to hold The Carbon Trust Standard. Companies which achieve the Standard must show continuous improvement over a three year period. We were recertified in 2019.
Carbon Trust certification
In 2018 we continued our pioneering work on The Carbon Trust’s Supply Chain Standard – for companies managing emissions from their supply chain – and achieved Level 2.
We did this by using the knowledge we’d gained as a holder of the Carbon Trust Standard to produce a carbon footprint for two of our highest-impact supply chain partners – and showing them how they could make energy and cost savings of around 30%.
Project sustainability
We drive sustainability on our projects via our 10 Point Plan – a framework with 10 key sustainability criteria, including carbon, waste, community investment and biodiversity.
The plan sets project-level goals and targets, which get harder year on year, and which are widely considered to be among the most challenging in the industry.
Projects completing in 2018 were required to achieve at least 6 out of the 10 points and and 65% of our projects achieved their target. Every year we set more challenging targets for our projects – projects starting in 2018 must achieve at least 7 out of 10 points and in 2019, they must achieve 8 out of 10. Further analysis and discussions are now underway, to help us understand what we can do to improve in 2019.
