Environmental systems

We manage our environmental risks in order to protect the environment from harm.

In 2018 we relaunched our Risk Management System having integrated our Environmental Management System (ISO14001:2015) with our Health and Safety system (ISO45001:2018). The new system draws together our business support services, enabling our people to better understand our risk profile, identify best practice and opportunities for improvement. We continue to consolidate the system to reduce paperwork and refine procedures, with the introduction of the mi|Risk platform earlier this year.

In 2019 we had one incident relating to silt pollution. Our incident response procedures were followed with full communication to all stakeholders and no further action was taken. We had two noise nuisance incidents and used these events as an opportunity to take positive action, having engaged and actively listened to our neighbours.

We have had no prosecutions during the year. However, we are not complacent. We continue to promote a culture of openness, where everyone recognises risk, is vigilant and aware of their responsibilities to address issues. We believe this is the most effective way to improve environmental compliance.

To improve the ease and pace of reporting observations and incidents, we have developed a new application, which will be launched in the first half of 2020. The app also allows our people to recognise and report good practice.
